Description:

It is difficult to restrain our enthusiasm for this museum quality piece. The brilliant luster of the finish is breathtaking. Scroll face plate, chrome trim, unblemished decals, nickel balance wheel, original case, attachments and motor are all sensational. This pristine AF appears to have been used only once or twice by the only owner she ever had. The only mentionable flaw with this machine is that if one catches the light just right one can detect slight scuffing of the finish on a couple of places on the extension bed. Although scarcely noticeable, we are forced to deduct 1 point from the 20 maximum points for cosmetic value.

Notice several features about Featherweights of this era.  The AF 48 has the newer scroll face plate, a numbered tension knob, the full length case tray, leather handled case, nickel balance wheel, all chrome trim, and high high light decals.  Within 18 months, many of the features that set this machine apart were to disappear from the Featherweight.  Every detail of this machine is original.

This particular case deserves some special mention. AF case handles are notorious for showing wear. Although they are of a sturdy mechanical design, they tend to fray at the edges, thus they are often wrapped with black tape. This case and handle, while admittedly not in “as new” condition, are as close to mint as any we have seen.

By the way, this machine was made to be used and it is in perfect running order.

Vintage Singer Darning/Embroidery Foot 121094 for use on all lock stitch Singer Sewing Machines. This foot can be used on Singer models 15, 66, 99, 185, 201, 221 and 222K.

This particular foot is in excellent condition. It is easy to use and fun to own. It works well with the delightful embroidery techniques in Dorothy Benson’s “Machine Embroidery” book. (listed separately)

Singer Featherweight 222 Darning and Embroidery Hoop 171074. Singer introduced this hoop to be used with the freearm 222K.  Singer made feed dog covers for 221 Featherweights. Authentic Simanco Feed Plates 108002 and 121309 can be difficult to find, but either one will allow you to embroider with a 221.   The embroidery hoop for use with the Featherweight 221 is a little harder to find.

Description:

Three qualities set this machine apart.

1.) The condition of the machine is superb. Gold decals are virtually 100% complete, just like the day it left the factory. Paint is exceptionally bright. Chrome is flawless. Needle plate and feed dogs show almost no sign of wear. Very few light pin scratches on the base. In addition, the machine operates exceptionally smoothly. Passing through our workshops, it became obvious that the previous owner treated this machine with the utmost care. This machine represents the finest example of Singer craftsmanship at the height of Singer domination of the sewing machine industry.

2.) The Big Red S badge was placed on only a limited few Singer Featherweight Class 221K models.

3.) Fewer still Red S badged Featherweights were produced for the U. S. market. This machine, with an original 110-volt motor which was produced in St. John’s, Canada, is a rarity.

4.) Singer placed the riveted 221K just below the badge on about 25% of all the 221K’s.

5.) Finally, every detail of this Featherweight is original (machine, case, manual and accessories) .

The case is solid inside and out. Latches and lining in great shape. Not a hint of odor.

White Singer Featherweight with Case, Manual & Original White Attachments

Special Features: This White Singer Featherweight comes equipped with the original white collector’s belt and manual. It is loaded with an original attachment box and a full set of genuine Singer attachments, all in excellent condition. The case and manual are in unusually great condition.

The White 221 Featherweight took Singer engineers 18 months to design. This little white marvel preserves many components of the black featherweight–the fold up extension bed, the lightweight portability, the straight stitch and horizontal hook shaft, the tension adjustment mechanism, tension regulator adjustment, and belt driven upper shaft. Remarkably, this machine is even lighter than the black featherweight, due principally to replacement of the gear driven main lower shaft with drive belts.

Vintage Singer “Penguin” Walking Presser Foot No. 160741 for Family Lock-Stitch Machines with original box, original instructions. It is easy to use and “waddles” like a penguin when in use. Thus, the nickname “Penguin Walking Foot”.

The Singer Sewing Skills Reference Book says this “in an essential for the woman who demands perfection in her work, yet is interested in time-saving methods.” This delightful book is one of the very few produced by Singer which gives instructions on use of the penguin walker. This is a highly collectible and adorable item.
