Rating: 8-/10 (Condition Chart)

Equipped with original 110-volt U.S. motor.

We really should add a rating category for the sewing smoothness of a machine.  This little jewell would rate with the best of them.  It operates to a feather-light touch and sews a very nice stitch.

Cosmetically, taken as a whole this is a beautifully kept sewing machine.  But make no mistake, it has been well used.  The sewing surface is a little scuffed in a couple of places, but none of the scratches penetrate the brilliant black enamel.  The gold decorative scroll work on this machine is intact with two rub marks.  All chrome is brilliant. Original case includes the side tray.  This machine features a striated face plate and black balance wheel.  This 221 Featherweight runs very well and has been fully serviced to provide many more years of service.

Included is a complete set of original attachments, original owner’s manual, original foot pedal and case and a Certificate of Authenticity.

Original Attachments with many extras include:

1.) Foot Hemmer

2.) Adjustable Hemmer

This lovely 221 Featherweight features a black-banded badge, which Singer had introduced in October of 1951.  Chrome is bright and in excellent condition.  Gold-leaf trim is bright and intact.  Paint is especially bright black, particularly across the top arm, where many other machines of this vintage show scarring.

A few pin scratches can be observed on close inspection, although none penetrate the enameled surface.

Mechanically, the machine is a gem.  Operates to light touch and sews a beautifully even stitch.

Included is a full set of original attachments.  Manual, foot pedal and case with side tray are in excellent condition, all original.  One indicator of  the delicate care the previous owner is the unblemished spool pin spring, a rarity on machines of this vintage.

The Singer Featherweight 221 That Purrs

$483.21  Free Shipping Continental U.S.A.

Singer 221 Featherweight AJ 119297

Badge Issue Date: 3-15-49 (see dating table)

Rating: 35/50 (American Scale)

Equipped with original 110-volt U.S. motor.

Occasionally we come across a particular machine that has real pitzfaa. This is one such machine.  It came into our shop tagged for the wrecking ball, but we happened to notice something unusual. It actually purrs. It operates to such a light touch you can purr back at it rather than push on the foot pedal, or so it seems.

Effortlessly it sews a perfect stitch.  Chrome is in excellent condition. The original decorative, gold-leaf trim on the back of the base is intact. Otherwise, this little kitten is cosmetically challenged.  Due to use, the trim on the front of the base is well-worn and the base enamel paint is a bit irregular.  But rarely have we worked on a machine that operates as smoothly as this one, and we just couldn’t bring ourselves to  part it out.

This machine comes with a full set of original attachments, original owner’s manual and the original leather-handled case.  The after-market red belt seems to help the machine purr along, so we left it in place.  This was one of the last Featherweights Singer produced with the handy case lift out tray, which is included.

If you love the feel of a machine that has been working for generations and will keep working for you and your family, this is the machine for you. This machine gives you the beautiful straight stitches you can only get from a  sewing machine of another era.

Red S Featherweight 221K ES 65

Model: Class 221K

Distinctive Feature: Rare Big Red S

Badge Issue Date: 05/15/61 (see dating table)

Rating: 46/50 (American Scale)    9-/10 (Condition Chart)

Equipped with original 110-volt Canadian motor.

These qualities set this machine apart.

1.) The condition of the machine is superb. Gold decals are virtually 100% complete, just like the day it left the factory. Paint is exceptionally bright. Chrome is flawless. Needle plate and feed dogs show almost no sign of wear. A few pin scratches on the base, and one notable scratch on the extension bed (see pictures). The machine operates exceptionally smoothly. Passing through our workshops, it became obvious that the previous owner treated this machine with the utmost care. This machine represents the finest example of Singer craftsmanship at the height of Singer domination of the sewing machine industry.

2.) The Big Red S badge was placed on only a limited few Singer Featherweight Class 221K models.

3.) Fewer still Red S badged Featherweights were produced for the U. S. market. This machine, with an original 110-volt motor which was produced in St. John’s, Canada, is a rarity.

4.) Singer placed the riveted 221K just below the badge on about 25% of all the 221K’s.

5.) Finally, every detail of this Featherweight is a Singer original (machine, case, manual and accessories) .  The chrome balance wheel is was added for a touch of elegance.

The case is solid inside and out. Latches and lining in great shape. Not a hint of odor.
