Sorry, this machine is temporarily unavailable. See full list of machines we have available.

Model: Class 221

Badge Issue Date: 6/18/48  (see dating table)

Rating: 8/10 (Condition Chart)

Equipped with original 110-volt U.S. motor.

We really should add a rating category for the sewing smoothness of a machine.  This little jewel would rate with the best of them.  It operates to a feather-light touch and sews a very nice stitch.

Cosmetically, taken as a whole this is a beautifully kept sewing machine.  But make no mistake, it has been well used.  The sewing surface is a little scuffed in a couple of places, but none of the scratches penetrate the brilliant black enamel.  The gold decorative scroll work on this machine is intact.  All chrome is brilliant. Original case includes top tray.  This machine features a striated face plate and black balance wheel.  This 221 Featherweight runs very well and has been fully serviced to provide many more years of service.

Included is a complete set of original attachments, original owner’s manual, original foot pedal and case and a Certificate of Authenticity.

Original Attachments with many extras include:

1.) Foot Hemmer

2.) Adjustable Hemmer

3.) Multiple Slotted Binder

4.) Edge-Stitcher

5.) Shirrer

6.) Ruffler

7.) Original Singer Featherweight 221 Manual

Featherweight 221 Victorian Classic

Sorry, this item is sold.
Singer 221 Featherweight AF 879791

Model: Class 221

Badge Issue Date: 04/01/1941 (see dating table)

Rating: 46/50 (American Scale)

Equipped with original 110-volt U.S. motor.

Description:

Just three months after rolling out this machine, The Singer Manufacturing Company and many other American manufacturers would retool their factories for wartime needs.  Singer would not issue another Featherweight badge for four full years, until after WWII. Many of the endearing features of this machine would be left behind when Featherweight manufacturing began again in 1945.  This particular machine is distinguished by the variegated-olive colored foot pedal and needlle-tension housing.  Singer experimented with a few fanciful designs in early 1941, but this is the only machine we have seen with this variation.  Additionally, this unit came with a blackside ruffler and 3 blackside bobbins.

The brilliant luster of the finish is magnificent.Scroll face plate, chrome trim, unblemished decals, original case, blackside attachments and motor are all sensational. This pristine AF appears to have been used for delicate work by her original owner.  There is light scarring of the finish on a couple of places on the extension bed and base, the usual scratches for a machine of this vintage, and finish stains along the front base. Therefore, we  deduct 3 points from the 20 maximum points for cosmetic value.

Singer Featherweights of this era had several notable features. The AF 87 has the scroll face plate, a numbered tension knob, a full length case tray, and  chrome balance wheel and trim.  Within 3 months  many of the features that set this machine apart would disappear forever from the Featherweight. Every detail of this machine is original.

This particular case deserves some special mention.  AF case handles are notorious for showing wear.  Although AF handles are of a sturdy mechanical design, they tend to fray at the edges, thus they are often wrapped with black electrical tape. This handle shows some wear, but otherwise the case, while admittedly not in “as new” condition, is in good condition.

By the way, this machine was made to be used and it is in perfect running order.

The Singer Featherweight 221 That Purrs

$878.78 (International Buyers, Please Request Shipping Quote.)

Singer 221 Featherweight AH 974626

Badge Issue Date: 12-9-1948 (see dating table)

Rating: 45/50 (American Scale)

Equipped with original 110-volt U.S. motor.

Occasionally we come across a particular machine that has real pizzazz. This is one such machine.  For starters, the case was among the last Singer Featherweights with a study, leather handle. Going through the refurbishing process, we happened to notice something particularly unusual. This machine actually purrs. It operates to such a light touch you can purr back at it rather than push on the foot pedal, or so it seems.

Effortlessly it sews a perfect stitch. Chrome is in excellent condition. The original decorative, gold-leaf trim is intact. The finish has retained the brilliant black with which it left the factory. The light scratches on the sewing surface did not show up on the photographs, but indicate regular use by the original owner. All Featherweights are a delight to sew with, and for the most part, only minor differences separate one from another in sewing quality, but this machine truly sets itself apart.

This machine comes with it’s original set of attachments, original owner’s manual and the original leather-handled case.  This was one of the last Featherweights Singer produced with the handy case lift out tray, which is included.

If you love the feel of a machine that has been working for generations and will keep working for you and your family, this is the machine for you. This machine gives you the beautiful straight stitches you can only get from a  sewing machine of another era.

Rating: 48/50 (American Scale)    9/10 (Condition Chart)

Equipped with original 110-volt Canadian motor.

The exceptionally smooth and light sewing touch of this particular machine are uncommon even for a Featherweight.

These qualities set this machine apart:

1.) The condition of the machine is superb. Gold decals are 98% complete. Paint is exceptionally bright.Chrome is flawless.Needle plate and feed dogs show almost no sign of wear.A few pin scratches and a slight ding where extension bed folds into front plate on the extension bed (see pictures). The machine operates exceptionally smoothly. Passing through our workshops, it became obvious that the previous owner treated this machine with the utmost care. This machine represents the finest example of Singer craftsmanship at the height of Singer domination of the sewing machine industry.

2.) The Big Red S badge was placed on only a limited few Singer Featherweight Class 221K models.

3.) Fewer still Red S badged Featherweights were produced for the U. S. market. This machine, with an original 110-volt motor which was produced in St. John’s, Canada, is a rarity.

4.) Singer placed the riveted 221K just below the badge on about 25% of all the 221K’s.

Singer Featherweight 221 Centennial

Singer Featherweight 221 Centennial with Original Case, Manual & Attachments-All Vintage

Singer 221 Featherweight Centennial

$647.47 (International Buyers, Please Request Shipping Quote.)

S/N: AK 750088

Model: Class 221

Badge Issue Date: 02/20/1952 (see dating table)

Rating: 43/50 (American Scale)

Equipped with original 110-volt U.S. motor.

The AK 75, issued in early 1952, marked the last of Singer’s Centennial Edition. The gold decorative scroll work on this Centennial is rubbed off for an inch or two where the fabric runs along the post.  The machine sews beautifully.  Every indication is that the original owner used this machine regularly but gently.  The bed shows the expected number of scratches, with slight scarring in a couple of spots, but none to penetrate the yet still brilliant black enamel.  Structurally, the case is in good repair. Original attachments and manual are all very nice. This Centennial is an exceptionally smooth running machine and takes off to a very gentle touch.
